Frederic A. Chapman letters, 1862.

The collection consists of letters written by Chapman in Canada to his wife Caroline at home in Brookyn, New York. The letters are dated September 5-November 12, 1862. In the letters, Chapman tells her of his lodgings, his attempts to support himself by selling maps and books, his thoughts on the war, and his advice on how to manage the household and finances. He also describes getting his passport and the steamboat trip to Canada. By reading newspapers, he is able to keep up with the draft news. The last two letters are written from Vermont as Chapman prepares to come home.
